Trepanning,
Ejector Drilling, Honing
MIC Group's Trepanning, Ejector
Drilling and Honing capabilities are a very important
part of our manufacturing process. Many of the
exotic materials MIC machines are not available
in tubing form. Having these drilling and honing
capabilities allow us to produce these parts from
solid bar stock.

Trepanning produces a hole by removing
a "core", or solid piece of barstock, from
the center of the bar. MIC can Trepan from 1.500" to
4.750" diameter from solid bar with reaming capabilities
exceeding 6.500" and depths of up to 15' from
one end. Pull boring is also utilized when OD to ID
concentricity is critical. These machines are also
used in Ejector Drilling operations.
Ejector drilling is similar to Trepanning
but no core is produced. Using either disposable type
or insert type heads, Ejector drilling can produce
holes faster and deeper than possible with conventional
drilling methods. In many instances Ejector Drilling
can produce holes with size and finish accuracy that
do not require any further machining. Size range for
Ejector drilling is from approximately .75" dia.
to 2.563" dia.
When hole size and finish become critical,
MIC uses honing. Honing is most often used to follow
the Trepanning and drilling operations. MIC's smallest
hone is an auto-stroke hone with a diameter range of
approximately .125" dia. thru 4" dia. For
larger parts, a horizontal hone is used with a diameter
range of 1.25" to 5", with a maximum stroke
of 15'. MIC's largest hone has a diameter range of
2"-12" and a maximum stroke of 12'. All of
these machines are capable of producing bores with
extremely close tolerance and finish requirements.
As with many of the other special processes
MIC offers it customers, "in house" Trepanning,
Ejector drilling and Honing allow for better PRODUCTION
PLANNING and QUALITY CONTROL by eliminating the need
to rely on outside services.
